Salesforce delivered one of its strongest quarterly performances on record, reporting fiscal second-quarter results on August 27 that topped Wall Street estimates across the board and prompted the company to raise its full-year revenue guidance.
The enterprise software giant posted revenue of $11.35 billion for the three months ended July 31, 2026, an 11 percent increase from the year-ago period and a slight beat over the $11.32 billion consensus estimate among analysts. Adjusted earnings per share came in at $5.90, more than double the $3.27 per share recorded in the same quarter last year. The company also reported GAAP earnings per share of $4.29, which included investment gains.
CEO Marc Benioff described the results as "one of our best quarters," pointing to the rapid adoption of the company's artificial intelligence tools as a central driver. Agentforce, Salesforce's AI-powered agent platform, saw its annual recurring revenue climb to $1.5 billion, up 240 percent year over year. Data Cloud, the company's unified data platform that feeds analytics and AI workflows, reached a combined annual recurring revenue of $3.9 billion, a 210 percent increase from the prior year.
The AI momentum helped justify a meaningful uplift in forward guidance. Salesforce now expects fiscal 2027 revenue in the range of $46.1 billion to $46.4 billion, an increase of roughly $200 million at the midpoint compared with the prior outlook. Third-quarter guidance was set at $11.42 billion to $11.50 billion, also above consensus expectations. The company credited the higher forecast partly to organic growth in Agentforce, Data Cloud, and Slack.
Investors reacted with enthusiasm. Shares surged more than 22 percent on Thursday, reaching approximately $252 and marking the stock's second-biggest single-day gain in history. The rally added roughly $50 billion in market capitalization in a single session. The gains were amplified by a disclosure that Salesforce's strategic investment portfolio, valued at $11.3 billion across more than 450 companies, contributed $2.53 per share to adjusted earnings in the quarter, largely driven by unrealized gains in its stake in AI model developer Anthropic, valued at approximately $5.1 billion.
The results underscore a broader narrative playing out across the enterprise software sector: companies that have successfully embedded AI into their core products are now beginning to see those investments translate into measurable revenue growth. Salesforce's Agentforce platform, which enables businesses to deploy autonomous AI agents for customer service, sales, and other workflows, has emerged as one of the clearest examples of AI monetization in the SaaS landscape. However, the contribution from investment gains raises questions about the sustainability of earnings growth on an operating basis alone, and analysts will likely scrutinize organic trends in the quarters ahead.
