Stellantis posted a net profit of €293 million in the second quarter of 2026, swinging back from a €1.869 billion loss in the same period of 2025. Revenue came in at €43.5 billion, up 13% year over year, driven by a 10% increase in shipments to approximately 1.6 million vehicles. Yet the stock fell as much as 8% on the day before paring losses to around 5%, as investors focused on margins rather than the return to black.
Adjusted operating income stood at €773 million, translating into an adjusted operating margin of just 1.8% — up 120 basis points from a year earlier but a fraction of the profitability posted by Detroit rivals General Motors (~8.2%) and Ford (~5.2%) over the same three months.
The volume recovery was led by North America, which added roughly 122,000 units and grew revenue 32%. However, Stellantis warned that the 32% North American revenue growth is measured against a 2025 quarter in which the company was actively clearing inventory and cutting shipments — a deliberately suppressed base. South America grew 6%, while Europe remained flat, under pressure from Chinese brands that captured 28.3% of the region's plug-in hybrid market in the first half of 2026.
Industrial free cash flow turned positive at approximately €1.0 billion, but Stellantis is still carrying a full-year tariff headwind estimated at €1.0–1.2 billion, after absorbing €300 million net in the first half following a €400 million refund tied to the IEEPA ruling. Full-year guidance was reaffirmed — not raised — at mid-single-digit revenue growth and a low-single-digit adjusted operating margin.
In management changes, Matt VanDyke took over Ram on July 20 and Branden Cote assumed leadership of Jeep on August 3, both reporting to Tim Kuniskis. Neither comes from product or engineering backgrounds; both arrive from marketing, dealer retail and digital sales, a signal that Stellantis sees the challenge as reaching customers rather than building better vehicles. Separately, 12,592 Ram 1500 trucks from the 2026 model year were recalled on July 30 for headlight wiring that can cause parking lamps and daytime running lights to flicker or fail.
