Strategy, the company led by Michael Saylor, has resumed buying bitcoin after a pause of nearly three months. According to the 8-K filing submitted to the SEC on August 31, 2026, between August 24 and August 30 the company purchased 4,603 bitcoin for a total of $369.7 million, at an average price of $80,318 per coin including fees. It is the first purchase after a roughly ten-week pause and lifts the corporate treasury to 845,050 bitcoin.
The return after the pause
The previous week had closed with no activity: the August 24 8-K showed zero purchases and zero sales, with holdings stuck at 840,447 bitcoin. The pause had therefore lasted about ten weeks: according to citybiz, the last purchase dated back to June 22. The period was unusual on another front as well: after years of steady accumulation, the company had sold part of its cryptocurrency holdings in the preceding months to strengthen its balance sheet, then halted sales and raised roughly $2 billion through new common share issuance. The signal of the return to buying came the same day as the announcement: Saylor posted on X the historical chart of the company's purchases accompanied by the message "We're Back".
What the 8-K shows
With the latest purchase, total holdings rise to 845,050 bitcoin, for an aggregate cost of $63.73 billion and a historical average purchase price of $75,412. The market value of the treasury is now around $66 billion according to Crypto Briefing, and the position shows more than $2 billion in unrealized gains. One detail stands out: the average price of the latest purchase, $80,318, is above the portfolio's historical average, meaning the company resumed buying at prices higher than its own average, betting on the continuation of the rebound.
