World, the digital identity project formerly known as Worldcoin, has begun rolling out World Money, a self-custodial financial super app available in more than 150 countries as of September 17, 2026. The app bundles stablecoin accounts, cross-border payments, trading, and yield programs into a single interface, with Stripe serving as the default funding channel starting in the United States.
What the App Offers
World Money lets users hold balances in eight currencies as stablecoins, send and receive digital assets globally for free, and access trading and yield features without leaving the app. The Earn tab, powered by Morpho, allows deposits of Worldcoin (WLD) and stablecoins into reward programs. The Trade tab supports buying and selling tokens and real-world assets such as gold, with portfolio tracking, transaction history, and price alerts built in.
A standout feature is virtual accounts powered by Bridge, available in eligible markets. Users can receive paychecks directly into a unique account within the app. Mini Apps — third-party integrations including prediction market Kalshi, lending service Credit, and the Morpho yield protocol — extend the platform's functionality beyond basic payments.
The Stripe partnership streamlines onboarding. Users in the US can fund their accounts through Apple Pay, converting fiat into stablecoins that typically arrive within minutes. World describes this as a deepening partnership that spans the rails for moving assets in and out of the app worldwide.
World ID and the Human Verification Angle
World ties World Money to its broader identity ecosystem. Users who verify their uniqueness through an Orb — the project's iris-scanning hardware — receive boosted rewards on Earn programs. The company frames this as a trust layer: as AI-generated fake accounts become cheaper, a network of verified humans becomes a differentiator for financial services.
The World ID system also provides a promotional limited-time rewards boost for verified users. World's FAQ clarifies that existing World App or World ID App users have their credentials automatically carried over to World Money, while new users must sign up.
Market Impact
Worldcoin's WLD token gained approximately 11% in the 24 hours surrounding the launch, according to CoinMarketCap data. The rally was driven by the launch itself, along with broader risk-on sentiment following recent Federal Reserve decisions and news related to treasury operations at Eightco Holdings.
The launch positions World Money at the intersection of several competing trends in crypto-fintech: self-custodial wallets, stablecoin payments, and identity verification. It follows a period of rapid growth for World, which now claims millions of Orb-verified users across its network.
What Remains Uncertain
World Money is not a bank. Digital assets including stablecoins are not deposits and are not insured by the FDIC or equivalent schemes. Investing and Earn programs carry risk, including possible loss of principal, and yields are variable and not guaranteed, according to the company's disclaimer. Feature and asset availability varies by jurisdiction, and the Stripe funding flow is limited to the US at launch.
The long-term question is whether a self-custodial app with biometric verification can compete with established fintech players and centralized exchanges on user experience and liquidity. World is betting that proof of personhood creates a durable moat — but the app's success will depend on adoption, regulatory outcomes, and the staying power of its token incentives.
