The FAO Food Price Index averaged 131.1 points in July 2026, up 0.6 percent from June, according to data released today by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), available on the official [Food Price Index page](https://www.fao.org/worldfoodsituation/foodpricesindex/en/).
The 0.7-point increase was driven by cereals, sugar and vegetable oils, only partially offset by declines in meat and dairy. On a yearly basis the index is up 1.0 percent, yet it remains 18.2 percent below its record peak of March 2022.
The Cereal Price Index rose to 113.8 points, jumping 3.4 percent month on month and 6.9 percent year on year. Wheat prices surged 5.8 percent over the month amid concerns over continued disruptions to Black Sea export flows and damage to export infrastructure, compounded by the impact of recent heatwaves on crop yields in several key producing countries. Maize rose 3.6 percent on hot and dry weather worries in the US Corn Belt and spillover from firmer energy markets.
